Making silicone molds

These are the molds that I made for Gare St Lazare’s breakaway glass panels.  The acrylic panels were the positives, and the molds were supported on panels of heavy chipboard.  I used 2 kinds of silicone rubber- the red, which is suitable for repeated hot castings, but is thick and less pliable, and the standard white, which is liquid enough to find it’s own level when the mold is flipped over.

Packing tape as a mold release.

Removing the cardboard walls of the mold.

Peeling back the silicone from the positive

Trim off any proud edges.

The silicone mold sits level.

Don’t try this at home!
