Neon Western by Conflicted Theatre

I went to see Neon Western by Conflicted Theatre and Peter Power, as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival.  It seemed to be about a corrupt city with a culture based on violence, reminding me instantly of Mahagonny, that opera by Kurt Weill.  The staging was a little incohesive, little zones scattered around, which didn’t relate very well to each other.  The play too was incohesive, songs and dancing punctuated by random acts of violence, with people inexplicably becoming remorseful, but then not.  Irene O’Mara was creative producer; I wish she had been performing, she has a spectacular voice.

An unexpectedly beautiful piece of music, The Chant, has stayed with me over a week later.
